Free half-day event to explore and discuss the findings of this major piece of third sector research and its implications for commissioners, policy makers and local voluntary organisations.

Thursday 29 June 2017, from 1-4pm (includes refreshments but NOT lunch)

City Hall, Bradford BD1 1HY (Council Chambers)

Professor Tony Chapman of Durham University, who heads up the Third Sector Trends research, will present the key findings, answer questions, and join us in an active exploration of the ‘state of the sector’.

We hope to welcome a diverse audience of voluntary and community sector colleagues, commissioners, policy makers, academics and other interested parties from across the Bradford District.

Towards the end of 2016, voluntary sector infrastructure organisations in the Bradford District made a concerted effort to promote the involvement of the local sector in the Third Sector Trends research study. Local groups responded to the call in numbers, out-participating Leeds – most importantly! - and forming a research cohort that earned the District its own locally-focused report. Set against the context of the wider regional (and north of England) picture, this event will present the findings from that report.

We aim to look not just at the Third Sector Trends research data, but beyond it to what’s happening in the District. For that part of the event to be most productive, it’s particularly important that those ‘in the know’ locally should attend, willing to share their own knowledge in response to the key data messages from the research.

The event will provide an opportunity:

  • For commissioners and partners to understand the realities in / state of the sector
  • For the sector to better understand the challenges it faces, and
  • For a collective think about how we continue to support the sector going forward.

In the course of the afternoon, we might expect to ask – and begin to answer – questions like:

  • How might this affect commissioning?
  • What can/should VCS groups do?
  • What’s missing from the research (things we want/need to know as well as things we already know)?
  • How can we use data more effectively, efficiently, collaboratively?

  • Registration and refreshments
  • Welcome / Introduction / Presentation of findings and initial Q&A
  • Discussion Groups
  • Feedback from groups and final plenary session.

EVENT HOSTED by a Bradford Council team at the heart of the voluntary sector commissioning process: Amria Khatun, Michelle Taylor, and Ajmal Hussain; EVENT ADMIN: Paul Colley, BDIP Information Team.
