This half day course is suitable for frontline professionals and those who have direct contact with children and their families. It offers participants an opportunity to develop their understanding of child protection issues and to be able to work within locally agreed safeguarding procedures.

The course will cover:

  • Understanding the legal context and locally agreed procedures
  • How to recognise signs and symptoms of abuse and how to respond
  • What to do if we have a concern that a child/young person is at risk of or experiencing abuse
  • The importance of listening to children and young people and coping with difficult information
  • Understanding the rules about confidentiality
  • Where to access safeguarding guidance and support

The course content includes a mixture of presentations, case studies, discussions and activities. Participants will gain knowledge and understanding of their own responsibilities and those of their organisations in safeguarding children from abuse.
