Trainer: Paul Stephens from Community Action  and Steve Blackman CEO from Volunteer Centre Bradford

This three day course which is based on the National Occupational Standards for Volunteer Managers and the Certa Volunteer Managers Award is ideal for existing staff to develop and consolidate their skills.  It will also be an excellent starting point for those beginning a volunteer management role.

Previous participants have found the course useful in terms of reviewing their own practice and as a source of help and support from other Volunteer Managers. See below for more feedback from previous courses.

The course will cover:

  •     The benefit of volunteering for the volunteer, organisation and community
  •     How to embed the principles of volunteering in your own organisation
  •     The legal and organisational requirements for volunteering
  •     Different ways to attract and recruit volunteers
  •     Good practice for recruitment/selection procedures and volunteer induction
  •     Volunteer motivation and the link to retention
  •     Different models of support offered to volunteers
  •     How to identify the training and development needs of volunteers

Eligibility Criteria

We have some funding from Bradford Volunteer Centre to provide this course at the discounted price of £70 per person and therefore you must be a member of staff or volunteer from a voluntary/community organisation based or delivering services in the Bradford District.

Optional Accreditation -  National Occupation Standards for Volunteer Managers

The course has an optional CERTA accreditation of three units at level three.

This qualification matches the National Occupational Standards.

We will support you through the accreditation process, providing digital support tools and post course group tutorials.  We run the only subsidised accredited course for Volunteer Managers in England.

Now in its sixth year, over 60 volunteer managers have successfully completed the course. Accreditation costs will apply however, this will be further subsidised by Volunteering Bradford and will be announced on the first day of the training.
