The Health and Care System have committed in principle to moving 1% of spending from the acute end into preventative and community care.
And what is the Left Shift?
The left shift is essentially about moving appropriate care, resource and ultimately power to people in their communities. This means shifting resource from hospitals toward community, with the aim of better health and wellbeing for communities and realising the power of communities to create their own health. The VCSE have a huge role as system partners in making this happen.
A key part of this work is to enable people and the communities to access early help to prevent later unnecessary hospitalisations and assist/support the health and care system with the significant challenges they currently face around demand management.
